Ready for some long range shooting?
The Green Mountain Regulators have built a "natural" long range facility which allows shooting of rifles to a distance of 400 yards. The range covers a part of the Green Mountain Regulators facility that allows for "natural" placement of steel targets at distances that vary from 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, and 400 yards. The targets are painted prior to each match for added visibility. Steel plate targets are for lead bullets only! NO EXCEPTIONS. Jacketed bullets may not be used when firing at any of our steel targets.
The long range area was designed to allow plenty of parking, plus the firing line is covered by a sun tarp to allow sound to dissipate and to aid in shading the shooter from the warm Central Texas sun. Shooting tables are positioned along the firing line. We also have areas for shooting from the prone position or using shooting sticks.
The range is a "work in progress". We have plans to expand to longer distances in the near future. As usual, with the Green Mountain Regulators, the matches are relaxed and fun, fun, fun. Other shooting games are played at the range such as "rifle poker" where you shoot to make the best possible poker hand.
The Green Mountain Regulators conduct regular rifle matches on the fourth (4th) Sunday of each month. Sighting-in and fouling shots are allowed from 9:00 a.m. until the start of the regular match at 10:00 a.m. Practice days can be arranged by getting your “smoke pole” partners together and calling ahead to reserve dates and times.
